The Section of Nephrology has extensive programs in patient care, research, and education. We are committed to excellence in each of these three activities with the goal for both our faculty and our trainees to be national and international leaders in the field of academic nephrology.
Our programs provided by the Section of Nephrology cover all aspects of our clinical discipline.
The research activities of our faculty cover a broad range of topics in renal physiology and nephrology from laboratory bench to patient oriented investigation.
The fellowship has grown and changed with the times, but has maintained Dr. Peters’ mission of excellence in nephrology education, clinical practice, patient advocacy and research.
The Northwestern Medicine Nephrology and Hypertension Program provides diagnosis and treatment for disorders and diseases of the kidneys, as well as hypertension disorders. Inside each kidney, tiny structures called nephrons filter blood to remove waste products and extra water. A subspecialty certification by the Board of Internal Medicine. Practitioners treat disorders of the kidney, high blood pressure, fluid and mineral imbalance, dialysis of body wastes when the kidneys do not function, and consultation with surgeons about kidney transplantation.
